GracePastel on aluminum oxide paper Image size: 15.5 in x 11 in 2005 An art teacher once told me that drawing an animal, or a person, was no different than drawing a mountain. The curves of the hills and valleys are the same as the curves of the body. The shadows on the belly are the same as the shadows in a deep valley away from the sunlight. The landscape has a spirit of place, but an animal has the spirit of a living creature, and that is a challenge to capture; the very essence of the character of the animal. |
