Our Lady of Guadalupe, Sonora
Pastel on aluminum oxide paper
Image size: 16 in x 12.5 in
Location: Sonora, Mexico (2006)
We were on a long bus ride to southern Sonora, Mexico, when
we turned a corner and there on the side of a mountain glowing with
sunset red, was a huge painting of Our lady of Guadalupe. I was
astounded by this image. Our Lady of Guadalupe is associated by some people
with Tonatzin, Aztec mother of the earth and protectress of humanity.
How perfect the image was in this place on the mountainside watching over travelers.
